Strengthening the US - Vietnam bilateral relationship
Trung Kien - Tam An 11:57, 2017/12/27
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has urged newly-accredited US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink to promote the exchange of high-level delegations and prompt the US Government to actively handle issues proposed by Vietnam to develop bilateral cooperative relations.
During a reception for the US ambassador in Hanoi on December 26, PM Phuc spoke highly of Kritenbrink’s contributions to enhancing Vietnam-US relations when he worked as Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the US National Security Council.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that Vietnam has actively launched agreements reached by the Vietnamese and the US leaders, including balancing the bilateral trade turnover. The Government leader hailed contributions of Mr. Daniel Kritenbrink to the two nations’ relationship when the Ambassador was the Senior Director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council.

PM Phuc suggested the two sides enhance trade exchanges to bring benefits to their people, expecting the Ambassador to promote high-ranking delegation exchanges and ask the US Government to address issues proposed by the Vietnamese side.

The Vietnamese Government will make efforts in cooperation with the US to strengthen their Comprehensive Partnership, he confirmed. Vietnam has been actively implementing already-reach measures, including those to balance bilateral trade, he said, adding that the growth of two-way trade will benefit the people of both nations.

While recalling his official visit to the US in May 2017, the PM said the two sides discussed and agreed on a number of measures to strengthen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership. PM Phuc hoped the US Ambassador will have a successful working tenure in Vietnam, affirming that the Government of Vietnam will coordinate with the US to drive the bilateral rapports forward.

The US regards Vietnam as one of most crucial partners not only in the region but in the world, Ambassador Daniel Kritenbrink said, extending his congratulations to Vietnam on the success of the Vietnam APEC 2017 year and thanks from President Donald Trump for Vietnam’s warm welcome during his official visit in last November.

Highlighting the economic and trade relations as key pillars in Vietnam - US relationship, the Ambassador hoped that Vietnam will tackle remaining issues and take advantages of opportunities in this field.

The US will continue supporting Vietnam in such areas as improving the maritime capacity, clearing unexploded bombs and mines, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges. Kritenbrink said the US considers Vietnam as one of its important partners not only in the region but also in the world.

The ambassador congratulated Vietnam on the successful organisation of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders Week and conveyed US President Donald Trump’s thanks for Vietnam’s warm welcome when he visited the Southeast Asian country in November.

Kritenbrink said his major task is to strengthen and expand cooperative relations between the two countries. Sharing the PM’s views, Kritenbrink said economic and trade cooperation is a pillar in Vietnam-US cooperative ties, which is developing rapidly. The diplomat hoped to work with Vietnam to well address challenges and make use of opportunities to promote bilateral relations.
