State visit to ramp up Indian-Vietnamese co-operation

President Tran Dai Quang’s state visit to India on March 2-4, 2018 is an opportunity for the two countries’ leaders to revisit the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and look for new co-operation opportunities for the future, stressed Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Parvathaneni Harish told Hanoitimes.
As such, during this state visit, President Tran Dai Quang will lead a high-level delegation which includes a large number of Vietnamese businesses attending the India -Vietnam Business Forum in the capital New Delhi, said Harish at a press conference on President Tran Dai Quang’s state visit to India on February 26. “This forum would attract the participation of more than 200 Indian and Vietnamese companies, especially business enterprises that have had the opportunity to invest in Vietnam,” Harish added.

H.E. Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish stated that there remain potential in economic and commercial co-operation between the two nations. Thus, the important tasks set by the two nations are not only to achieve a bilateral trade of US$15 billion by 2020, but also to explore and promote further co-operation in various fields, namely providing business partners with information on co-operation and investment opportunities in Vietnam as well as in India. It is hoped that this visit by President Tran Dai Quang would enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Indian-Vietnamese bilateral trade has exceeded US$10 billion in 2017. The new goal of US$15 billion by 2020 was agreed on by the two countries’ leaders, Vietnam is India's fourth largest trading partner in the ASEAN and India is among Vietnam’s top 10 trading partners, according to data from India.
The two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Vietnam.
During this State visit, a number of important agreements will be signed to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the fields of using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, business and trade, agriculture, and defense and security.
Within the framework of this visit, in addition to talks with President Ram Nath Kovind, talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and meetings with other Indian leaders, President Tran Dai Quang will visit Bodh Gaya and the capital New Delhi.
The high-level delegation accompanying the President includes Vietnamese businessmen who will attend the India-Vietnam Business Forum, an event jointly organized by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
The President will also meet with Indian Parliament Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and the India-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group at the Indian Parliament. President Tran Dai Quang is expected to deliver a policy speech and meet Indian scholars at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in New Delhi.
