International ICT conference in Hanoi
The Hanoitimes -  Nearly 150 international and domestic scientists and students attended an international conference o­n information and communications technology (ICT) in Hanoi . The event was jointly held by the Hanoi University of Natural Science under the Vietnam National University, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The scientists discussed the major issues of computational intelligence, communication and networking, model and reproduction, information and knowledge management, operation and optimisation, software technology and embedded systems, people-to-robot conversation and image processing. The event offered a chance for ICT students to approach new technologies which are of interest to the scientist community in the world. The participants were also presented with scientific reports by prestigious scientists such as Prof. David W.L. Cheung from the University of Hong Kong, Dr. Barry S. Perlman from the US Army Communications – Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Centre and Dr. Dang Tuan from the Electricity of France.

FPT to build 57 mln USD software park
FPT Software Company– a member of FPT Group- will invest 57 million USD in a software park at the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Zone in Hanoi. Sources at the FPT Group said o­n Oct. 23 that the project is expected to generate 8,000 jobs, mainly in the software sector. FPT Software said within the next four years, 80 percent of its production will be conducted under outsourcing contracts and the remaining will focus o­n products, services and solutions for the domestic market. The company plans to pay a 10 – percent dividend.

VNPT shortlisted for Broadband Awards
The Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has been short-listed for the ‘Changing Lives’ awards - o­ne of the 10 prizes up for grabs at the Broadband Infovision Awards 2010. The jury selected VNPT thanks to its initiatives and solutions for developing broadband infrastructures and services in Vietnam during 2009 and 2010. Holding the largest broadband market share in Vietnam , at 75 percent, the group has narrowed the “digital gap” between urban and rural areas, changing people’s lives by giving them access to the internet and the knowledge-based economy. VNPT will compete against three rivals – Columbus Networks, Saudi Telecoms and Telstra, for the award. The Broadband Infovision Award is a world-acclaimed prize which is presented annually by the UK ’s Informa communications group. It attracts major telecoms corporations and operators from all over the world. 53 entrants have been listed for this year’s awards, covering 10 categories including best new service; broadband access network technologies and services; broadband network and services management and operations; content, entertainment, applications and services; broadband home: appliances, devices, home networks and services; enabling silicon and component-level technologies; network innovation; green broadband; broadband innovation of the year and broadband that changes lives. Within the framework of the Awards, a Broadband World Forum will also be held in France , from October 26-28, with 200 executives from the world’s leading telecoms groups attending.
