Road wide for Vietnam to 2023 Women’s World Cup

The win enables the Vietnamese to partly join four qualified teams in the final round in 2023.

Vietnam ended the match today [February 2] with 2-0 against Thailand to confidently continue the playoffs for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, a milestone for the team.

With the win, doors become wide for the Vietnamese to be the fifth team to earn an automatic slot to the global tournament to be held in 2023 in Australia and New Zealand.

The two goals were contributed by Captain Huynh Nhu at the 19th minute and Thai Thi Thao five minutes later.

Vietnam is among three teams together with Thailand and Taiwan competing for the fifth ticket to the World Cup Finals.

Vietnam will meet Taiwan at the next playoff series on February 6.

The winning team of the playoffs will join four qualified teams namely China, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines, with Australia – the co-hosts.

Meanwhile, the two remaining teams will qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup through the Inter-Confederation playoffs.

Sharing with media earlier, Vietnam head coach Mai Duc Chung was confident that his players would qualify for their first FIFA Women’s World Cup. “The players have worked hard to be here and I believe we will continue playing our best to achieve our goal of reaching the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year,” ANI reported.  

He noted that qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup will be a huge achievement for them and Vietnamese football.

Captain Huynh Nhu believes Vietnam will join the world’s best in Australia and New Zealand next year.
