Quang Ninh province opens Yen Tu Spring festival 2016
The Yen Tu Spring festival 2016 officially kicked off at the Yen Tu historical site, Uong Bi City in the northern province of Quang Ninh on February 17, the 10th day of the first lunar month.
Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan attended the opening ceremony. The event also attracted the participation of various Buddhist followers and visitors.
The opening ceremony took place numerous activities including traditional rituals and art performances creating a solemn and sacred atmosphere of Yen Tu Spring Festival.
During the event, visitors were also introduced the unique value of the Yen Tu where for a long time has attracted many monks and nuns to practice and enter into religion.
The Yen Tu Spring festival is the longest and most attractive event among Quang Ninh's spring festivals.
Yen Tu Mountain is located about 50 kilometres from Ha Long City. The area has a beautiful natural landscape and awe-inspiring scenery, surrounded by ancient pagodas and hermitages.
Dong Pagoda, which sits at top of the mountain’s highest peak, is more than a kilometre above sea level.
Besides numerous temples, it also preserves many old religious and cultural documents such as precious prayer-books and monks’ writings.
Yen Tu was recognised as a Special National Relic Site in September 2012. It was also chosen as one of the country's 10 most popular spiritual destinations by the Vietnam Records Organisation.
This year's festival has many positive changes in the organisation, management as well as the festival.
Besides, sale areas are also redesigned to ensure services demand and the relic's environmental landscape.
Yen Tu welcomed over 250,000 tourists during the Tet holidays 2016.
The festival runs through the end of the third lunar month.
