“Trung is an experienced diplomat with 40 years of working in foreign affairs and strong involvement in Vietnam’s multilateral and bilateral diplomacy,” said Vo Van Thuong, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat at the appointment ceremony on March 19.
“Given Trung’s capabilities, I expect he would make significant contribution to the Commission, which serves as the advisory body of the Party in the foreign affairs field,” he noted.
Trung, born 1961 in Hanoi, was designated Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs in December 2010 and reappointed to this position in October 2014 after completing his term as Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN from 2011-14.
In January 2016, Trung was elected to the Party Central Committee at the 12th National Party Congress and reelected to the body at the 13th National Party Congress in January 2021.
The Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations is responsible for assisting the Politburo and the Secretariat in directing and guiding the people's foreign affairs and foreign activities in the system of the Party, unions and people's organizations. |
