The labor market in Hanoi in 2022 picked up its pulse, recording substantial recovery and growth since March.

Hanoi created jobs for 203,027 people in 2022, achieving 126% of the year’s plan thanks to flexible solutions during the year, according to the Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Of the total, more than 116,742 people found jobs through employment counseling and placement services, and 62,700 others obtain employment through preferential loans for job generation, and others.

The labor market in Hanoi in 2022 regained its pulse, recording a recovery and substantial growth since March, the department said, adding that the high rate of job creation had helped Hanoi maintain an unemployment rate in urban areas of 3.18%, fulfilling the target of below 4% in 2022 which the city has set out.

The department's deputy director, Nguyen Hong Dan, said that along with the economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, the city had intensified solutions to develop the labor market and create jobs for idle workers in the new normal when the city revived business activities, tourism, restaurants, and hotels.

“To ensure the set targets for job creation, the department has researched the current labor market situation, development trends, and economic implications in the coming times to accurately assess and predict scenarios," said Dan.

"The department has taken numerous solutions to exceed the goal of helping around 160,000 workers find employment throughout the year. We will continue to find suitable solutions to ensure employment for all working-age people," the deputy director stressed.

Besides, the department has improved the quality of Hanoi's labor force, supported workers in vocational training, and expanded career opportunities in the context that the Covid-19 pandemic has been under control, Dan noted.

He emphasized that the department will complete the network of collecting and providing labor market information for the comprehensive operation of the satellite job exchange system.

The Hanoi Employment Service Center has successfully organized 189 job fairs, during which more than 4,900 entities and businesses recruited 12,800 laborers.

The center has also opened its official channels on social networks to inform employees about activities of their interest. The information includes job fairs and unemployment insurance policies.

It is forecast that laborers in Hanoi will be able to access seasonal job opportunities at craft villages easily during the period before the Lunar New Year 2023.

Next year, the Hanoi Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs plans to find jobs for 162,000 workers. To achieve this objective, it will continue to apply solutions to boost the labor market, such as reducing the processing time for administrative procedures, providing professional training and finding new jobs for the unemployed, and implementing loan granting policies for job creation, the export of labor, the development of production, restoration and the development of traditional handicraft industries.

The city also continues implementing policies to support employees by improving labor market forecasting, approving loans, collecting market information, and connecting labor supply and demand.

The department will improve the operational efficiency of the city’s job exchanges in the 2021-2025 period and the following years.

Besides, the department will promote business cooperation in recruitment, training and job creation; support learners to find jobs after graduation, and focus on sending laborers to work abroad under contracts.
