The budget allocated for essential goods in Hanoi during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) is expected to rise by 30-35% compared to last year, according to Nguyen The Hiep, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade.
Hiep explained that the increase is driven by the needs of more than 11.5 million people in the city by the end of 2024. To ensure a steady supply, the department has implemented various measures and recommended that businesses source additional supplies from provinces across the country. Furthermore, efforts will be made to boost the sales of Vietnamese goods during the holiday period.

Hanoi's government is actively planning the stockpiling of food and essential commodities for the upcoming Tet holiday, aiming to balance supply and demand while stabilizing prices. This strategy ensures an abundant supply of goods throughout the holiday season.
To meet the increased demand during the year-end and Tet holidays, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade has instructed manufacturers to boost production by at least 30%.
Hiep stressed that Hanoi's 30 commercial centers, 131 supermarkets, 455 traditional markets, 2,000 convenience stores, 1,327 grocery stores, and tens of thousands of food shops in districts and towns make up a diverse distribution network.
The official pointed out the need to coordinate with relevant units to control food safety, smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods, goods infringing intellectual property rights and price management.
"In the coming period, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade will coordinate with departments and enterprises to launch demand stimulation programs, including spring flower markets and Tet sales in industrial parks, processing zones and rural areas," Hiep said.
In addition, local businesses are urged to stick to their plans to ensure the supply of essential goods. At the end of October, businesses in Hanoi and other provinces pledged they would provide essential goods to Hanoi to avoid price hikes during the Tet holiday.

The city also pledged to continue advancing the "Vietnamese buy Vietnamese products" campaign to support enterprises in production and sales. In recent years, domestic manufacturing enterprises, especially those in Hanoi, have captured the public's preferences through the "Vietnamese Goods Loved by Consumers" program.
"With a variety of well-prepared solutions, Hanoi's supply of goods is abundant and basically meets the demand of consumers," Hiep said.
Ha Thi Thu Trang, head of the marketing department of Wincommerce General Trading Service Joint Stock Company in Hanoi, said they are increasing their stock by 20%.
Nguyen Minh Tuan, Director of GO! Thang Long Supermarket, informed that they have worked with major suppliers to stabilize prices of key products, which account for 10%-50% of the total volume of goods for Tet and will be sold in their network of supermarkets and stores.
In the livestock sector, Nguyen Thi Nghia, Sales Director of CP Vietnam Joint Stock Company, said her company had prepared 20% more fresh goods and 50% more processed goods for this Tet holiday. "For about a week now, our sales have doubled compared to normal days," Nghia said.
