This year, ITE Ho Chi Minh City will be bigger and better, with more than 300 booths from airlines, hotels and resorts, travel firms and tourism representatives from more than 40 countries and territories like Germany, Japan, Russia, Turkey, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and the UAE.
The event is a platform for international and regional buyers, suppliers and trade professionals from tourism and travel organisations in both inbound and outbound markets in the Mekong sub-region, according to La Quoc Khanh, Deputy director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism
This year, the country’s tourism sector will focus on tourism promotion and marketing activities for tours in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia, Khanh added.
The expo will feature a varied programme including online business matching, trade seminars, post-show tours and Travel Fun Fair Day for public. It is expected to attract 300 international buyers from high demand markets and 30,000 visitors.
The expo is organised by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism in coordination with Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism, Vietnam Trade Fair & Advertising JSC, and Informa Exhibitions.
In 2016, the fair attracted 270 display units from 17 countries and territories, alongside 32 localities across Vietnam. There were over 26,000 arrivals of visitors to the event, and more than 3,600 meetings between purchasers and sellers, according to the fair organizer.
Ho Chi Minh City expects to receive 7.5 million to 8 million international tourists and an estimated of 29 million domestic visitors in 2018. In 2017, international arrivals to the city are estimated at 6.39 million arrivals, an increase of 22.8% from 2016, reaching 110% of the set plan. Total tourism revenue is approximately at VND116 trillion (US$5 billion), up 12.6% over the same period last year and meeting the set plan, according to Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism.
