India's External Affairs Minister unveils Mahatma Gandhi’s bust in Hanoi
The bust of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled in the Chancery building of the Indian mission.
External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj attended the inauguration ceremony for the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in the courtyard of the Embassy India to Vietnam on August 27.
The event was held on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji, contributing to enhancing the Indian cultural footprint in Vietnam.
Speaking at the event, External Affairs Minister of India Sushma Swaraj highlighted the long standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and India. “India and Vietnam’s relations are not only the relations established after India’s independence, these relations are centuries old and are cultural, historical and also commercial”, she said.
Bilateral trade between the two countries has increased from US$7.8 billion in 2015 - 2016 to US$12.8 billion in 2017 - 2018, an increase of 66%. The last few years have seen significant strengthening in the defence and security cooperation and it is an important pillar of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, according to Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, Parvathaneni Harish.
On the occasion, the International Centre for Cultural Studies (ICCS) and the My Son World Heritage site Management Board handed over a MOU between two sides.
Swaraj is in Vietnam on the first leg of her four-day two-nation tour which aims at deepening India's strategic cooperation with Vietnam and Cambodia.
In Vietnam, Swaraj inaugurated the third edition of the Indian Ocean Conference on August 27. She will also co-chair the 16th meeting of the Joint Commission, along with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
