Multi-talented Jean Reis will wield the baton for Brazilian Night at the Opera House in HCM City on Saturday.
The concert will feature Il Guarany Overtune from O Guarany by Antonio Carlos Gomes, the first Brazilian opera to become popular beyond the country's borders.
Gomes (1836 – 1896) was a Brazilian composer of the Romantic period and the first from the Western Hemisphere to gain acceptance among European audiences, critics, and colleagues.
The night will also feature Sinfonia Brasileira (Brazilian Symphony), a nationalistic composition by Brazilian violinist and composer Arthur Barbosa.
Clarinetist Nguyen Tuan Loc and viola player Bui Anh Son will perform German Romantic composer and conductor Max Brunch (1838-1920)'s Concerto for clarinet, viola and orchestra in E Minor, op. 88.
The concerto is a unique combination of instruments possessing different timbres but similar ranges and a unique agility.
Reis, besides being a conductor, also plays the violin, teaches, and is an artistic director who has been creative organiser of dozens of music festivals in his native Brazil.
He received a master's degree in violin performance and orchestral conducting from the University of Redlands and Andrews University in the US.
He is presently the music director and orchestra conductor of six international music festivals and conducts the Versatilis Orchestra .
Tickets to the concert are available at the venue at 7 Lam Son Square, District 1, HCM City.
