Hanoi's agriculture asked to prioritize resources for production development

This direction was said by Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Xuan Viet at the conference held on January 7 to review performances of the munincipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2015 and tasks for 2016.
In 2015, although the weather was more volatile due to impacts of the El Nilno phenomenon, Hanoi's agriculture sector gained the remarkable results with a surge in cereal grain productivity and assured food security.
During the year, its total production value of agriculture, forestry and fisheries was estimated at 45,190 billion VND, increasing by 6.59% compared with 2014.

The city had over 294,000 hectares of cultivation land. The value of agricultural products from 1ha of agricultural land was estimated at 233 million VND per 1ha, an increase of more than 2 million VND compared with 2014. Structure of agricultural production shifted positively towards decreasing density cultivation, increasing the proportion of breeding, processing and agricultural services.
Especially, hi-tech application in production and management has improved agricultural yield and enhanced farmers’ livelihoods.
In 2016, the city's agricultural production is forecasted to face many difficulties and challenges of the weather conditions. The munincipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will focus on developing agriculture towards the agricultural goods processing, high-tech applications, and producing clean and high quality products.
The Department targets to reach the growth of agricultural-added value from 3.5 to 4% in 2016.
To achieve this goal, the restructuring of plants and animals will play an important role for the city's agriculure.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman Tran Xuan Viet praised the positive results of the agricultural sector achieved in 2015.
He also noted that in 2016, the municipal agricultural sector will meet major challenges with the country’s deeper integration into the global economy and more specifically the ASEAN bloc.
The Vice Chairman proposed the department to revise the investment plan with the focus on tasks of floods prevention and production.
Vice Chairman Tran Xuan Viet stressed the need to provide training for agricultural experts and farmers and suggested that relevant organisations should coordinate to implement comprehensive projects and training schemes.
