Hanoi welcomes French enterprises: Mayor

“The relation between Hanoi city and French localities including Toulouse and Ile de France has been exemplary for the two countries’ partnership at local level”, Hanoi Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung stressed.
Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on November 3 met with a 30-member French enterprise delegation.
The team escorting French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe on his official visit to Vietnam (November 2-4) exchanged with the Hanoi leader about the potential cooperation between Hanoi and French firms in various fields of mutual interest.

At the meeting, Chairman Chung briefed on the economic-social situation of Hanoi. Accordingly, Hanoi is among the two leading cities of Vietnam in growth pace, contributing 19.2% to national GDP.
Besides, the number of newly-established business in Hanoi reached over 25,000 per year, with total registered capital of US$14 billion in 2018. The city has lured a great flow of foreign direct investment in the last three years, leading the country in FDI attraction in 2018 with US$7 billion. At the same time, domestic businesses have also increasingly poured their money into the capital city.
With such a background, Hanoi maintains the annual average growth rate of over 7.5%. The city also focuses on social welfare policies with the target of trimming the poverty rate to 1.27% in 2018.
Besides, Hanoi is also heading to build smart city through the application of technology to provide online public services, conduct administrative reform, control transport, etc.  
Chung stressed that the ties between Hanoi and French firms had grown in numerous fields, especially in healthcare, cultural preservation, transport, environment, energy, etc. “The relation between Hanoi city and French localities including Toulouse and Ile de France has been exemplary for the two countries’ partnership at local level,” Chung stressed.
The mayor touched on Hanoi’s close cooperation with Agence Française de Développement (AFD) on building e-government, air quality control and metro line projects.
Amid the strong and profound development of Vietnam-France ties, Chairman Chung expressed hope that French enterprises would enhance the cooperation with Hanoi in infrastructure development, healthcare, education, training, especially in building smart city, one of the top priorities of Hanoi.  
For her part, Céline Charpiot-Zapolsky, head of French enterprise delegation said that the firms coming to Vietnam this time operate in a number of areas, from environment, sustainable urban development, to energy, healthcare, infrastructure, logistics, which are among Hanoi’s big concerns.
On behalf of the delegation, Céline expressed her hope that the meeting would be an open forum for the parties to exchange on potential cooperation and contribute to improving the Vietnam – France ties.  
Also at the meeting, Hanoi's Trade Department, Vingroup and Semmaris Company of France signed a memorandum of understanding about the survey and study to establish an international wholesale market in Hanoi.
