Hanoi wants diplomats’ support for stronger world connectivity

With the support from diplomats, Hanoi expects to access to advanced technologies to build a smarter city.
Hanoi authorities hope that Vietnamese ambassadors and general consuls would be the bridge connecting the city with the rest of the world, so that the local government can learn experience in development, access modern technologies from other nations, and expand cooperation with cities in the world.

Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung made the statement on August 20 when hosting the meeting with newly-appointed ambassadors and general consuls for the term of 2018-2021.

Chung expected the heads of representative agencies will help the city promote cultural exchanges and its image to the world.

On behalf of diplomats present, Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam affirmed that they were impressed by Hanoi authority’s interest in and active promotion of foreign affairs, greatly contributing to the success of the country’s diplomacy.

Nam agreed to support Hanoi in acquiring advanced technologies in the world for smart urban development, tailoring urban landscape, improving the environment, managing transport and so on.

Appreciating the delegation’s exchange activities and Hanoi’s foreign trade promotion, Nam also affirmed that efforts will be made to support Hanoi in these programs, contributing to promote the capital’s brand to the world.

Also at the meeting, the ambassadors and general consuls expressed their impression of Hanoi’s achievements in comprehensive development and shared the proposals to make Hanoi’s diplomacy more effective.

Hanoi looks to become a smarter city

At the meeting, Hanoi's mayor also said the city will focus on accessing and applying advanced technologies in the world to develop and serve effectively socio-economic development.

Chairman Chung said that Hanoi’s leaders always determine that the work of building and developing foreign affairs is an effective channel for the socio-economic development of the capital. From 2016 until now, Hanoi has become more attractive to foreign direct investment, evidenced by major projects in high technology, manufacturing, waste treatment, environmental pollution, and healthcare sectors.

On the basis, Hanoi maintains an annual growth rate of over 7%, actively improves its competitiveness, accelerates administrative reform, applies information technology in public services, trains human resources, and improves medical facilities, Chung added.

Sharing about Hanoi’s policies to support businesses, Chairman Chung said that the capital always encourages small and medium enterprises, urges creativity and start-ups. In particular, Hanoi has prioritized a number of Japanese enterprises to develop waste treatment programs, environmental pollution, set up high-tech agricultural joint ventures, actively apply European technologies in building a database for land fund and smart education, etc.

According to Chung, in the coming time, Hanoi will focus on research and transfer modern technologies in various fields, from transport infrastructure to healthcare, commerce and services. Besides, Hanoi will cooperate with foreign experts in the process of environmental pollution and implementing advanced education models.
