Chairman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan gave the remarks during a meeting with his Vientiane counterpart and Secretary of the capital Party Committee Anouphap Tounalom on May 16.
Tuan, who is on a visit to Laos, stressed the significance of the great friendship and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Laos that had been nurtured through generations of both countries’ leaders, including President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane, and President Suphanouvong.
“The authorities and people of Hanoi are determined to further solidify this relationship, especially with Vientiane,” Tuan added.
According to Tuan, Hanoi-Vientiane relations have progressed strongly in all spheres. The latest cooperation agreement signed between Hanoi’s Party Committee and Vientiane’s counterpart in the 2022-2025 period during the visit of the Hanoi Party chief Dinh Tien Dung is set to lay the foundation for future cooperation.
“As the pandemic situation has been contained along with the reopening of countries in the region, Vietnam and Laos in general, and Hanoi and Vientiane in particular, are facing favorable conditions to boost cooperation and friendship,” Tuan added.

Tounalom called for both people’s councils to continue exchanging experience and good practices to ensure the efficiency of operations of elected bodies at localities.
At the meeting, both sides also expressed strong confidence in future cooperation between the two cities, which would further contribute to the friendship and solidarity between Laos and Vietnam, Hanoi, and Vientiane in the times to come.
On this occasion, Tuan invited a delegation from the Vientiane People’s Council to visit Hanoi at the soonest time as part of efforts to realize a bilateral cooperation agreement and celebrate the “2022 Vietnam – Laos, Laos – Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship year”.
