Hanoi to facilitate cooperative activities with South Korea

Numerous cultural exchange events and partnership projects are planned between South Korea and Hanoi in the coming period.

South Korea seeks opportunities to strengthen cooperation with Hanoi through specific activities and projects, based on flourishing ties between South Korea and Vietnam, said newly-appointed South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Choi Young Sam during a meeting today (September 27) with Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh.

Marking his new tenure in Vietnam, Choi said numerous cultural exchange events and partnership projects are planned between South Korea and Hanoi in the coming period. The ambassador expressed high hopes for continued support from the Hanoi city government for these activities.

The ambassador highlighted the strong ties between Hanoi and South Korean localities and mentioned an upcoming delegation visit from Hanoi's People’s Committee to South Korea, which he has been coordinating with local governments to facilitate.

Choi said a recent call between General Secretary and President To Lam and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol as a positive signal for expanding bilateral cooperation in areas such as infrastructure and cultural industries.

During the meeting, he also expressed sympathy for the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam and Hanoi, confirming the embassy's readiness to assist the city government in recovery efforts.

Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh recognized the longstanding relationship between Vietnam and South Korea, noting that Hanoi attracted about US$120.9 million in foreign direct investment from South Korea in 2024, including 54 new projects and investment capital increases.

He praised the embassy's contributions and assured the city government’s continued support for collaboration on initiatives with the South Korean embassy and its partners.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed mutual issues, including support for the Korean community in Hanoi, facilitating Korean teachers in Vietnam, and various South Korean projects in Hanoi related to retail and infrastructure.
