More job fairs will be held in metropolitan districts and suburbs of Hanoi in the second quarter of this year, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Tay Nam told The Hanoi Times.

How will the department carry out the Hanoi People's Committee's Plan No. 21 on fostering and expanding the job market in 2023?

Under the plan, we will hold numerous job fairs in urban and suburban areas to link job seekers and employers. Some of these fairs will include sessions specifically for disabled individuals, demobilized soldiers, and vulnerable individuals.

The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the city's employment transactions that have been organized over the last three years. However, the city resumed operations in 2022 and has seen success. Hoan Kiem, the first district to work with the department, organized a job fair earlier this year, successfully bringing together job seekers and recruiters.

We intend to host 55 on-site employment fairs during the first three months of 2023, while Hoan Kiem and Thanh Oai district officials conducted mobile job exchanges in March.

In the city, 252 job sessions will be conducted for 2023. We will also arrange two job transactions for disadvantaged workers, eight mobile events, six themed job fairs, 6-8 online job matching sessions between Hanoi and other provinces, and daily job fairs.

How has the demand for hiring in various fields changed after Covid-19?

After the Covid-19 era, we observed a rise in the need for hiring personnel with information technology abilities to fill production activity requirements. I believe high-tech employees will be in demand from local manufacturers in the near future.

In addition, we'll concentrate on creating jobs for new workers, unemployed laborers, employees of industrial parks, and people operating in service industries.

What solutions do you have to address the current challenges?

Some companies are currently struggling with a lack of overseas orders, which has reduced the demand for hiring for a while. As a result, we will work closely with them to find jobs for workers.

In the second quarter of 2023, many students will graduate from technical colleges and start working. We'll connect these graduates with companies if more orders come in during this period.

We have realized many ideas, such as setting up online job meetings. We recently held an online job fair between Hanoi and the five provinces of Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh, Bac Giang and Bac Kan, where 34 Hanoi-based businesses that participated in the fair hired people for more than 1,500 positions.

This year, Hanoi aims to create 162,000 jobs, about 2,000 more than last year. What will you do to achieve this goal?

Hanoi has found jobs for more than 44,000 people in the first quarter of 2023, accounting for 27.5% of the year's plan.

The city continues to roll out many solutions to fulfill the target of helping 162,000 workers find jobs for the whole year and keep the urban unemployment rate below 4%. As such, the municipal Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has cooperated with other departments, branches, and localities and directed the Hanoi Center for Employment Service to effectively launch the plan No. 2 on supporting and developing the labor market in 2023 and other related policies. 

In addition, we will enhance market forecasting and training course quality to meet the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We put a particular emphasis on training people for jobs in sectors like tourism, high-tech manufacturing, automation, information technology, high-tech agriculture, logistics, and the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
