Hanoi spends US$3.44 million to build traffic tunnel across Red River dyke

The tunnel is set to be 18m wide, nearly 16m long and 3.2m high. Its two doors are designed to automatically open and close for flood drainage in the storm and rainy season.
Hanoi is going to spend about VND80 billion (US$3.44 million) to construct a tunnel for traffic that connects Tran Nguyen Han Street and Chuong Duong Do Street in downtown Hoan Kiem district, local media reported.

The construction is part of a list of 21 medium-term public-investment projects in the period of 2016-2020 recently approved by the municipal People’s Council.

The project includes the construction of road tunnels, the expansion of Chuong Duong Do street, campus renovation and planting trees on both sides of the street.

The tunnel is set to be 18m wide, nearly 16m long and 3.2m high. Its two doors are designed to automatically open and close for flood drainage in the storm and rainy season.

Previously, many people suggested that underground tunnels should not be built but overpasses to save costs. However, after surveying and researching, the independent consulting units proposed to build underground tunnels.
