Accordingly, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong expected the visit to open up new opportunities for cooperation between Hanoi and Hong Kong. "Hong Kong expects to build partnership with Vietnam, especially Hanoi, in potential areas," Yau said.
In agreement with Secretary Yau's proposal, Mayor Nguyen Duc Chung believed that the FTA between Hong Kong and ASEAN would open more opportunities for cooperation between Hanoi and Hong Kong. The Mayor said that, on the basis of strong growth of 8.5% in 2017 and an average of 7.5 - 8.5% in the past eight years, one of Hanoi’s development goals is to facilitate a start-up ecosystem. On October 10, 2017, Hanoi's start-up ecosystem portal was launched with more than 700 start-up businesses to date.
In the coming time, the city government will continue to welcome investment in and support for Hanoi start-ups by the foreign business community, especially Hong Kong information technology companies. Furthermore, the Mayor also expects that Hong Kong will cooperate with Hanoi in the areas where Hong Kong prevails such as urban railway, finance, tourism, trade etc.
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong agreed with the Hanoi government’s suggestions, and on that ground would like to not only focus on cooperation in the areas of mutual interest, but also continue to boost exchanges, understanding and strengthen friendship between the two countries’ people.
