Hanoi receives 100 green trees from Finland
On the morning of November 25, at the intersection of Tran Thai Tong - Pham Van Bach (Cau Giay district, Hanoi), Hanoi People`s Committee in co-ordination with the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam held trees planting event to celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Finland National day.
Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen The Hung, representative of The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to Vietnam Kari Kahiluto, Counselor of the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam Annika Kaipola and representatives of the Embassies, international organizations and residents in Hanoi atttended the event.
To congratulate to the Finnish people on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the National Day, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said that people in Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general admire Finland as the capital Helsinki is a beautiful seaside city with lots of greenery and unique architecture. According to the Chairman of the City People's Committee, Hanoi is aiming to be a capital of "Green – Culture - Civilization - Modern" and has set up a target to plant one million trees by 2020. In nearly 2 years, the city has planted over 462,000 trees, reaching 46.2% of the target.
President Nguyen Duc Chung expessed his gratitude to the Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam for donating 100 trees to the Hanoi, and with the efforts of the authorities and the people as well as his encouragement, Ha Noi will reach the target of planting 1 million trees in the shortest time.
"These 100 trees in the near future will be green, making a remarkable place of Finland in the heart of Hanoi. This will also be a symbol of good friendship and cooperation that the two countries will continue to develop and strengthen", Mr. Nguyen. Duc Chung emphasized.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Kari Kahiluto, Ambassador of Finland to Vietnam expressed his honor and gratitude to the Hanoi People's Committee for planting 100 trees. He affirmed that planting trees is not only a traditional symbol of respect and continuity but also a practical action to protect the environment, contributing to the program of planting one million trees in Hanoi. This is also an action to mitigate climate change and improve the urban environment.
Mr. Kari Kahiluto added that cooperation in forestry has been and will continue to be an important area of cooperation between Finland and Vietnam. At the same time, the planting of 100 trees will keep Hanoi a green city and a place to live for generations in the future.
