Hanoi promotes cooperation with New Zealand’s Wellington

The Hanoi delegation learned Wellington`s experience in a wide range of issues, especially building smart cities, transportation system, sustainable growth, and education and training.
A Hanoi delegation led by Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc paid working visit to New Zealand’s Wellington from September 16-18, in a bid to strengthen ties between the two cities.
In Wellington, the Hanoi delegation held talks with Simon Woolf - member of the Wellington Council, during which the two sides informed each other about their development and shared experience in operating council activities and some related issues.

Wellington’s leaders exchanged with the delegation on ensuring social security, vocational training, health insurance, social insurance, experience in building smart cities, transportation system, sustainable growth, and education and training. 

The two sides also shared their experience in putting issues on table for debate, issuing resolutions, gathering opinions of voters, the decision making of major policies focusing on socio-economic development of each locality.

The Hanoi delegation also had a working session with Rarolyn Dick, senior advisor on strategy and administration of Wellington city. The two sides discussed criteria for building smart cities, strategies for building social housing, immigration issues, and the role of consulting councils for issues concerning youth and woman in building socio-economic development policies. 

In the working visit to Victoria University, the Hanoi delegation met with Brook Panned from Wellington’s Economic Development Agency. Panned hoped the two sides would expand their collaboration in training, especially training management and leadership skills.

For her part, Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc thanked the Wellington side for their warm welcome and sharing its valuable experience. At the same time, Ngoc appreciated the fruitful development of Vietnam-New Zealand relations and the bonds between Hanoi and Wellington in recent years, affirming these are solid foundations for the two countries’ localities to deepen cooperation. 

Ngoc stressed that this was the basis for the two countries to focus on deepening cooperation, and hoped that the two cities would exchange practical activities in the time ahead.

During their stay, the delegation also visited the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand, during which Ngoc called on the agency to continue to be a bridge to further promote friendly relations between Vietnam and New Zealand as well as Hanoi with and New Zealand’s localities.
