Phuong Lan said that the department has actively built Tet plans since October 2020 to stock up 17 groups of essential goods for the holiday with a total fund of VND39.4 trillion (US$1.7 billion), an increase of 5% over last year.

"The department plans to organize 12 markets and 300 mobile stores to industrial zones, export processing zones and mountain communes, in addition to 60 spring flower fairs," Lan said.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Quoc Khanh said that the city is expected to give nearly 900,000 donations to beneficiaries of the government's social welfare bailout package, worth over VND370 billion (US$16 million).

Moreover, the municipal government has prepared more than 2,000 Tet gifts for underprivileged workers, Khanh said.

Standing Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen said despite the effect caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the municipal government will strive to prepare the best for the local residents’ Tet holiday.

"The relevant units will carry out activities of visiting and presenting gifts to people living in difficult circumtances and people with meritorious services in the city, ensuring that no one is left behind during the holiday," Tuyen said.
