Hanoi plans 31 fireworks displays to celebrate Lunar New Year

Hanoi has finalized a list of 31 venues for fireworks displays to ring in the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Dog, which will begin on the midnight of February 15.
There will be nine locations for high-range fireworks, including Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Khanh Lake, Hoang Cau Lake, Thong Nhat Park, Lac Long Quan Flower Garden, Van Quan Lake, My Dinh National Sports Complex, Vinhomes Riverside, and Son Tay Citadel.

Meanwhile, fireworks will brighten the skies at a lower height in the remaining 22 venues throughout Hanoi’s urban and rural districts. Each pyrotechnic show is expected to last for 15 minutes, with the largest shows displaying 600 fireworks set to take place at Hoan Kiem Lake and My Dinh National Sports Complex.
In addition to dazzling fireworks, revelers will also be treated to song-and-dance performances at the viewing areas, according to the capital city’s culture department.
Following Hanoi's lead, Ho Chi Minh City will bring back fireworks for Lunar New Year. A Ho Chi Minh City-based travel company has been allowed to hold fireworks displays to celebrate the Lunar New Year at a local theme park.
Three other low-range pyrotechnic performances will light up Dam Sen Theme Park (District 11), Cu Chi Tunnel (Cu Chi district), and Sac Forest (Can Gio district) on the midnight of February 15, 2018, the Eve of the Lunar New Year, according to Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee report.
But there will also be Lunar New Year fireworks displays at Nga Ba Giong War Martyrs Monument in Hoc Mon District and in Nha Be district. The city will look to private resources to fund the pyrotechnics. Last year there were no fireworks anywhere in the country, and the money thus saved was earmarked to help the poor.
