Hanoi looks to tap cooperation potential with Canada

With the aim of taking businesses and people as a service center, Hanoi is striving to speeding up administrative reform in order to create favorable conditions for businesses.
The comprehensive Vietnam - Canada partnership established in 2017 has opened up many cooperation opportunities between Hanoi and Canada’s localities, said Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung while hosting newly-appointed Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Deborah Paul on January 29.

Chairman Chung expected that the ambassador will keep promoting the relationship between the two countries to a new height.

He also highly valued recent activities held by the Embassy of Canada in Hanoi. The cultural exchanges and investment promotion activities strongly contributed to the relationship between the two countries, Chung stressed.

The chairman affirmed that Hanoi is committed to supporting events organized by the Embassy of Canada in the city, including the upcoming Francophone Community Conference. 

Chung also stressed that Hanoi enterprises have seen many cooperation opportunities with foreign partners, including Canadian ones, and many opportunities from high technology transfer, trade and investment promotion. 

With the aim of serving businesses and people better, Hanoi is striving to speeding up its administrative reform in order to create favorable conditions for businesses, the chairman emphasized.

This is also an opportunity for the business community of the two sides to seek more cooperation opportunities, enhance the exchange to improve bilateral turnover, Chung added.

For her part, Ambassador Deborah Paul congratulated Hanoi for being one of the most dynamic cities in the world, according to the recent report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

Sharing Chung's view, the diplomat affirmed that the comprehensive Vietnam - Canada partnership has opened up many cooperation opportunities between Hanoi and Canada’s localities.

The ambassador thanked Hanoi’s authority for supporting the Canadian Embassy’s activities, including the Run for Children in Hanoi and many initiatives to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment. 

She hoped that Hanoi will continue to support similar events in 2019. Particularly, in March, her embassy will focus on the French International Day, including the exchange of performances and screening of films in French.

Deborah Paul also noted that there will be a delegation of Canadian businesses in the field of information technology visiting Hanoi to seek cooperation in smart city development.
