Hanoi hosting F1 opens up space for racing sport in Vietnam
Hanoi will make every effort to ensure that the race takes place in April 2020, and also organize major racing events in the future.
That Hanoi hosts the Formula One racing - F1 will become the first step to contribute to the development of this sport in Vietnam, said President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Jean Todt at a meeting with Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on March 19.
Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung hailed the efforts of FIA in managing and supporting the F1 racing in 22 countries around the world. He also emphasized the role of FIA in supporting and promoting traffic safety worldwide.
Chung said that Vietnam's capital appreciates FIA’s support in launching the first Formula One racing in Hanoi.
In recent years, Hanoi has been chosen to host many important international events, among them was the successful organization of the second US - North Korea summit last month. Safety and security of all the events held in Hanoi have been ensured in all aspects, said Hanoi's mayor.
On traffic safety, the chairman of Hanoi People's Committee said that Hanoi currently has more than 5.7 million cars. With the effort of the city’s government and residents over the recent years, the number of traffic accidents Hanoi has been reduced by 7-12%.
Chung believed that with the support of the FIA, Hanoi will make every effort to ensure the race takes place in April 2020, and organize major racing events in the future.
For his part, FIA President Jean Todt said that this is the second time he came to Vietnam and noticed many positive changes, especially in road safety as more the people wear seatbelts and comply with speed limit. The FIA president hopes that the Formula One racing in 2020 will raise people's awareness of traffic safety.
