Hanoi considers each reporter a tourism ambassador: Mayor
Reporters were served Hanoi’sspecialties right at the IMC’s cafeteria prepared by the capital’s 12 famous cuisine restaurants, a demonstration unseen at other world events organized in Vietnam and elsewhere
During the second North Korea – US summit, Hanoi considered each reporter a tourism ambassador of Hanoi and Vietnam, indicating the country’s friendliness, according to Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee.
At the International Media Center (IMC) – located in the Friendship Cultural Palace, over 3,000 local and foreign reporters were given thoughtful care, Chung said at the monthly meeting of the municipal People’s Committee on March 1.
In addition to favorable working conditions, reporters were served Hanoi’s specialties right at the IMC’s cafeteria prepared by the capital’s 12 famous cuisine restaurants, which is unprecedented compared to other summits organized in Vietnam and elsewhere, Chung added.
It is worth noting that the event was not planned in advanced but on short notice, however, Hanoi has fulfilled expectations for hosting the summit, Chung continued.
In preparation for the summit, Hanoi had held four emergency meetings, issued 22 directives and one decision regarding the allocation of additional funds for personnel working for the event.
Additionally, Hanoi carried out 30 inspections to ensure local government agencies proceeding with their respective responsibilities, including decorating and cleaning up streets and venues in relation to the summit, promoting Hanoi’s images and ensuring traffic orders, among others.
Nguyen Manh Quyen, director of the municipal Department of Planning and Investment, said foreign tourists coming to Hanoi in the first two months of 2019 reached 809,600, up 2.4% month-on-month and 32.7% year-on-year.
The number led to a revenue of VND17.3 trillion (US$745.31 million), up 34.7% month-on-month and 11.5% year-on-year. Moreover, the occupancy rate at hotels reached 78.2%, up 10.93% month-on-month.
