The case in Hanoi has triggered concerns about widespread transmission as the new patient, a 42-year-old male and identified as Patient No.714, is a bus manager and has interacted with many others. He resides in Phuc Dien ward, Bac Tu Liem district.

He had symtomps of Covid-19 since July 19 such as light fever and sorethroat after returning from a four-day tour in Danang on July 17.

However, as mild symptoms continued, he went for work and traveled to different places as usual.

He attended a meeting with a group of 12 people, moved to four distircts in Hanoi, and went to his hometown in Nam Dinh province and in-law hometown in Thai Binh province after the first symptomps appeared. He also showed up at a party and a karaoke gathering.

He went to several hospitals in the city for checkups. On July 3, the man went to Hospital for Traditional Medicine under the Ministry of Public Security. One day later, he went to Ha Dong Hospital, National Lung Hospital, and was later referred to National Hospital for Tropical Diseases where he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Hanoi has traced back his travel history and found a long list of people of close contact. The local authorities continue to update the list of people involved.

Two other local infections detected last week in Hanoi are also linked to Danang, the beach city in central Vietnam where SARS-CoV-2 reemerged.

According to Nguyen Khac Hien, director of Hanoi’s Department of Health, as many as 95,442 people in the city are returnees from Danang since July. Quick testing for coronavirus has been taken on more than 72,000, of them 12 people initially had positive results and were confirmed later negative for the virus.
