Hanoi boosts ties with Finnish localities

Permanent Vice Secretary of the Hanoi municipal Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang met with Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam Kari Kahiluoto on August 20.
At the meeting, the ambassador expressed hope that Hanoi and Helsinki would maintain their fruitful relation, heading to the sustainable development.
Ambassador Kari Kahiluoto cited some issues of mutual concern between the two cities which are traffic, infrastructure development, while highlighting the open room for their bilateral cooperation in urban development, trade, culture, education and tourism, etc.

For her part, Hang thanked the Finnish people as well as Helsinki city for their support given to Hanoi in the war time as well as nowadays. Among the projects stood out the water one for Hanoi in the 1985-2001 period.
The Hanoi official also expressed her gratitude to the support given by the Finnish Embassy that facilitated the trip of a Hanoi delegation to Finland in June.

In Finland, the delegation led by Hang had working sessions with officials of Helsinki and the southern Ostrobothnia region on possibilities of cooperation between Hanoi and the localities. 
The Hanoi delegation visited the southern Ostrobothnia region where they received warm welcome from regional council chairman Kai Potinen, regional governor Asko Peltola, and regional permanent deputy governor Antti Saartenoja.
At the meeting, the two sides reviewed the accomplishments that they gained over the past 10 years since the signing of the bilateral cooperation agreement.
Despite geographical distance, Hanoi and southern Ostrobothnia have carried out a number of effective cooperation activities, especially in the fields of culture-society, education-training and art exchanges.
Through the visit, the Hanoi delegation wished to continuously increase cooperation and experience sharing with the Finnish region, not only in cultural exchanges, labor and education-training but also in other realms such as social welfare, trade and investment promotion, tourism, smart city, green technology, energy, and e-government.
Hanoi has granted investment licenses to four investment projects from Finland with total registered capital of US$570,000 in information technology and commercial services, Hang noted.
On the basis of the trip’s positive results and the healthy Vietnam-Finland relations, Hang hoped that Hanoi and Finnish localities would keep striving to new cooperation, especially in the areas of education, investment, trade, etc.
Agreeing with Hang, Ambassador Kari Kahiluoto also showed his high support for further cooperation plans between Hanoi and Helsinki in the time ahead, with the aim to reinforce Vietnam-Finland ties.
