Hanoi, Amsterdam seek to strengh economic ties

Chairman of the Hanoi People`s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung expected that Hanoi and Amsterdam will continue to implement specific and practical projects based on mutually beneficial cooperation.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s upcoming visit to Vietnam (April 9-11) is expected to open up more cooperation opportunities between the two countries, particularly investment activities between Amsterdam and Hanoi.

At a meeting with Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung last week, Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Elsbeth Akkerman said that, during the upcoming visit by Dutch PM Mark Rutte, there will be activities to promote cooperation in the fields of circular economy and sustainable development.

On this occasion, the ambassador proposed a business matching event organized by the Hanoi People's Committee, for the Dutch business delegation to meet with Hanoi’s potential partners.

Elsbeth Akkerman added that as Hanoi is striving to become Asia’s innovation hub, she wants to work out ways to explore cooperation potential in this field.

For his part, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung emphasized that Hanoi and Amsterdam have a good traditional relationship. He expected that the two sides will continue to implement specific and practical projects based on mutually beneficial cooperation. 

Chung said that Hanoi desires to become a smart city and establish a green economy, is a market with a young population, with great demand for learning and training, there remains large room for cooperation potential between Hanoi and the Netherlands' localities.

Chairman Chung affirmed that Hanoi will contribute to connecting and supporting the investment promotion forum and share experience in circular economy and related contents among the two countries’ enterprises.

Chung also stressed that Hanoi’s authority will do its best to contribute to the success of the visit.

Regarding economic cooperation, Chung noted that a number of Dutch corporations are promoting investment in Hanoi, such as lighting project at Hoan Kiem Lake, smart grid or funding for Formula One race (F1), among others.

The prospect of a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA) in the future will certainly open more space for cooperation between Hanoi and European businesses, Chung added.

The Dutch ambassador expressed her gratitude to the Hanoi People's Committee for the city’s  goodwill cooperation in organizing activities between the two sides. She pledged to make efforts to bridge, strengthen and develop Hanoi - Amsterdam linkage as well as Vietnam – the Netherlands relationship.
