He also suggested both countries make more efforts to address difficulties to boost bilateral trade, as their potential in trade cooperation has yet to be tapped fully. The Government leader informed the guest that he will assign a Government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung to visit Laos to seek ways to intensify bilateral cooperation in numerous fields, especially in energy.

Vietnam is considering the implementation of several transport infrastructure projects linking the country with Laos, he said, adding that Laos should scale up the sale of electricity to Vietnam. He spoke of the financial cooperation agreements reached by the two ministries during the Lao guest’s visit, confirming that Vietnam is willing to help train financial officers for Laos and coordinate with the country at international financial forums.

According to the host leader, Vietnam and Laos possessed a close brotherhood and shared numerous experience on national development. Vietnam, said the PM, promises to spare no effort to nurture the special and comprehensive friendship. Vietnamese localities have deep sentiments towards Lao peers and support them on socio-economic development.

PM Phuc suggested the Lao leader support Vietnamese investors in the neighboring country; regarding them as a component of the Lao economy and offering supportive policies on taxes and fees. He also affirmed that the Vietnamese Government committed to proactively backing Lao enterprises here; calling on the two sides to extricate business obstacles to spur the bilateral trade in accordance with respective potentials. The Vietnamese side is researching on key transport projects with a view to connecting the two economies, PM Phuc added.

For his part, Deputy PM Somdy Douangdy took the occasion to thank the valuable support of the Party, Government and people of Viet Nam and pledged to nurture the special and comprehensive ties. The guest leader briefed the host about his productive talks with the Vietnamese Minister of Finance, especially on the issues of institutional building, financial policies, and the settlement of public debts.

The Lao Deputy PM asked the Vietnamese Government to encourage more Vietnamese businesses to invest in Laos, especially in disadvantageous areas to boost socio-economic development and improve locals’ living conditions. Laos will do its utmost to nurture its special friendship and all-round cooperation with Vietnam, he added.
