First farm in Vietnam receives US, EU organic certification
20:31, 2015/11/05
A vegetable farm run by Mua Company in Long Thanh district, the southern province Dong Nai, has become the first in Vietnam to be certified as meeting organic cultivation standards of the US Department of Agriculture and the EU.
The 1.8-hectare farm, which supplies vegetables for Mua Company’s ORGANICA organic food chain, is currently growing nearly 100 kinds of tropical vegetables and fruits.
According to Pham Phuong Thao, director of the company, the farm was launched in 2013 with the support of Control Union.
The farm was evaluated and certified by Control Union in late October this year, she said.

Currently, the company is planning to expand partnership with individuals and businesses that are keen on growing organic agricultural products to share experience and seek markets, Thao added.
Organic certificate is considered the highest food safety standard recognisation. Certified products should satisfy requirements of using no chemical fertilizer and pesticide or stimulant substance, hormone and generically modified organism, while ensuring environmentally friendly, biodiversity and sustainable development standards.
