Enhancing Vietnam - Japan bilateral relationship
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed Vietnam attaches importance to the extensive strategic relationship with Japan and regards Japan as a top and long-term partner.
He stressed the point at reception for Chairman of the Japanese Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Policy Research Council Fumio Kishida in Hanoi on May 4.
PM Phuc hailed the strong, comprehensive and substantial advancements of the Viet Nam-Japan relations while political trust between the two countries is at high level.
The Government chief expressed thanks for Mr. Kishida’s contributions to the two countries’ relationship when he served as foreign minister of Japan and the Secretary-General of the Japan-Viet Nam Parliamentarians' Friendship League.
The host suggested the two countries strengthen political trust through increasing the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-ranking ones and deepening ties between their parties and parliaments.
PM Phuc also asked the two sides to coordinate in organizing activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2018 and step up cultural, people-to-people and local-to-local exchanges to boost mutual understanding.
The Government leader thanked for the Japanese Government’s effective support for Viet Nam through official development assistance, affirming Viet Nam always treasures and spares no effort to seriously follow ODA commitments with Japan.
He asked the Japanese sides to facilitate import of Vietnamese aquatic products and fruits (litchi, logan and star apples).
Kishida was delighted Japan’s position as the largest investor in Viet Nam with more than 1,700 Japanese businesses operating in the country, saying he was impressed with Viet Nam’s economic growth of 6.81% in 2017.
Japanese companies are very interested in the Vietnamese market, Kishida said, adding that Viet Nam and Japan should strengthen their cooperation in regional and international matters.
Japan hopes to play a role in infrastructure development in Viet Nam, including urban railway projects in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, he said.
PM Phuc and Mr. Kishida also discussed on security, peace and stability in the region.
