In order to respond and promote the National Tourism Year in the northwest province of Lao Cai in 2017, the 2016 Ban Flower Festival will be held in the northwestern province of Dien Bien this month.
In March, Dien Bien province will organise a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister’s Decision on implementing a master plan to develop the Dien Bien Phu – Pa Khoang national tourist site.
The 2016 Ban Flower Festival will be held in the northwestern province of Dien Bien on March 13-15.
The festival aims to honour, preserve, promote and develop the typical and individual cultural heritage forms of peoples in the northwest in general and Dien Bien province in particular.
The event helps to further strengthen solidarity, friendship and close cooperation in economic and tourism development between the locality with provinces and cities nationwide as well as neigbours from northern Laos and northeastern Thailand.
The festival will be attended by HCM City, capital of Hanoi and eight northwestern provinces encompassing Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, and Ha Giang.
At the event, visitors will be treated to special art performances featuring local unique culture.
During this year's festival, a wide range of activities will take place such as a photo contest on Ban Flower, traditional dances of some ethnic groups like Mong, Thai and Kho Mu, a culture exhibition and folk games.
The highlights of the 2016 Ban Flower Festival are a workshop on developing tourism products in the province, a cooking contest and a street culture parade.
Ban flower, scientifically known as Bauhinia Variegata, is typical to the northern mountainous region of Vietnam, often in blossom in spring.
