Deputy PM welcomes Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank’s leader
Emulation subject of the Foreign Ministry in 2017 is "Year of APEC Vietnam 2017 - Improving the efficiency in service development and international integration."
On January 18, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh hosted a reception for D.J Pandian, Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Hanoi.
Deputy PM Minh spoke highly of efforts of the AIIB’s member nations in accelerating the establishment and operation of the bank, which is now one of the key international financial organisations in the region. Just less than one year after its formation, the bank has set up ties with many international financial institutions and many countries have expressed their wish to become its members, he stressed.
The Deputy PM hopes Vice President Pandian will give support and necessary consultation to Vietnam on areas where the AIIB and Vietnam can cooperate. He affirmed that Vietnam will effectively use loans provided by the AIIB for infrastructure development in the country, adding that Vietnam hopes the bank will become a reliable investment channel for Asian countries, particularly developing nations like Vietnam.
He suggested the AIIB work closely with the State Bank and relevant agencies of Vietnam, towards achieving high consensus in building and approving investment projects of the Vietnamese side in the coming time.
For his part, Vice President Pandian highlighted Vietnam’s active and significant contributions to the bank’s formation and development process. In its development strategy, the AIIB considers Vietnam as an important partner, he said, noting that the bank can make practical contribution to Vietnam’s development through cooperation on infrastructure investment. He expressed his hope that Vietnam and the bank will define specific directions and roadmaps for their partnership in the coming time.
Deputy Prime Minister suggested the diplomatic service in 2017 to concentrate on a number of key tasks as follows: It is to do better, more insightful research and forecasting both strategy and action. Efforts to maintain the momentum of relations with partners, further strengthening relations with partners, especially the key stakeholders.
Continuing to maintain an environment of peace and stability for the country's development. Continuing to keep the momentum of international integration in all fields, especially when there is the Central Resolution 06 on international integration. Actively and positively participating in ASEAN, especially when the ASEAN Community has been formed for one year.
Ending the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh has launched the 2017 competition theme of the Foreign Ministry's "Year of APEC Vietnam 2017 - Improving the efficiency in service development and international integration."
