Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes that Cambodia will successfully host the upcoming ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) 2023 held in the capital city of Phnom Penh.

PM Chinh also requested Heng Samrin and the National Assembly support and bolstered the economic relationship between the two countries, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The Vietnamese government leader said Vietnam and Cambodia should work to strengthen comprehensive ties and that there is still room for the two nations to improve the relationship.

Prime Minister Chinh also congratulated Cambodia for recently achieving remarkable results, including successfully holding the fifth communal people's council election in June, which is the basis for the upcoming seventh National Assembly election in 2023.

The Vietnamese head of government wished that Cambodia successfully hosts the next ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) 2023 to be held in the capital Phnom Penh.

For his part, Cambodian chairman of the National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin stressed that the visit of the Vietnamese Prime Minister would enhance the comprehensive long-term relations between the two nations.

He added that the visit shows the valuable support Vietnam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh have for Cambodia as chair of ASEAN and AIPA in 2022.

The Cambodian politician also congratulated the Government and people of Vietnam, led by the Vietnamese Communist Party and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, for making significant achievements in socio-economic growth and international integration.

He believed Vietnam would soon become an industrialized economy in the near future. The Cambodian official appreciated that the two prime ministers of Vietnam and Cambodia had a good discussion and that state agencies and businesses had signed 11 agreements on this occasion.

He also spoke highly of the results of Vietnam-Cambodia cooperation, especially in politics, foreign affairs, economic cooperation, trade, investment, education and training, culture, healthcare, and settlement, marking the borderline.

Speaking of cooperation, both leaders agreed that Vietnam and Cambodia must foster their comprehensive, long-term relations to benefit the two nations and peoples.

Hanoi always cherishes and strives to improve its relations with Phnom Penh, contributing to the Vietnam-Cambodia partnership, according to Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh.

Vietnam and Cambodia have remained close neighbors with strong ties, covering various fields from the economy, culture, and politics to diplomacy, Thanh said during a meeting with Phnom Penh Municipal Governor Khuong Sreng on September 6.

Hanoi’s mayor proposed the two capital cities maintain high-ranking exchanges for better mutual understanding. Hanoi and Phnom Penh should hold investment conferences to boost economic cooperation and bring benefits for businesses and explore high potential fields for further cooperation, such as healthcare, environment, urban, cultural and historical heritage preservation, Thanh said.

For his part, Phnom Penh Municipal Governor Khuong Sreng conveyed his sincere thanks to Hanoi’s leaders and people for providing support for Phnom Penh over the years, especially during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Stressing the importance of the long-standing Vietnam-Cambodia relations for the mutual benefit of the two peoples, Khuong Sreng suggested both capitals maintain channels to ensure greater understanding, continuing the tradition laid down by President Ho Chi Minh and King Norodom Sihanouk, as well as current leaders of both countries.

He called for the two cities to strengthen cooperation in all fields, especially economic and social development.
