Swimming and powerlifting brought five more gold medals for Vietnam at the ongoing ASEAN ParaGames 2015 in Singapore on December 5.
In the morning, weightlifters Le Van Cong and Nguyen Binh An each grabbed a gold in the men’s 49 kg and 54 kg, respectively.
The pair said their performance is to prepare for the upcoming Paralympic Rio 2016 in Brazil.
The remaining three golds went to swimmers Vo Huynh Anh Khoa, Pham Anh Tu and Tran Quoc Phi in the men’s 100m freestyle.
By noon, the total of 14 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze medals placed Vietnam third on the tally, behind Thailand and Indonesia.
The Vietnamese team will continue competing in athletics, swimming, badminton, chess, boccia, powerlifting and table tennis for the rest of the day.
Vu The Phiet, who leads the delegation to the event, said the main goal is not the number of medals seized but disabled athletes’ doubled efforts to triumph over themselves.
