50 interesting programs to be held in Quang Ninh Province on “National Tourism 2018”

The National Tourism 2018 – Ha Long - Quang Ninh was launched by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at a press conference in Hanoi on November 6.

This is the second National Tourism Year hosted by the northeastern coast province of Quang Ninh. According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, 42 events will be held in provinces and cities nationwide in response to the National Tourism Year.
The event themed “Ha Long – Heritage, Wonder, Friendly Destination” includes 50 interesting programs on culture, sports and tourism. Highlight of the National Tourism Year will be the opening ceremony and Ha Long Carnival scheduled for April 28, 2018. The closing ceremony will be linked to the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019 and the Ha Long Golf Open Tournament.
Diverse activities will be held at different localities. They include the northeast food festival, the paragliding contest and international mountain bike tourney. Many other events will also be held in Quang Ninh including the Asia Beach Volleyball Tournament, Ha Long International Marathon 2018 and Ha Long – Japan investment promotion conference. In addition, an opening ceremony of Yen Tu Festival, Yen Tu golden apricot and cherry blossom festival, Ba Vang Pagoda daisy festival and Ngoa Van spring festival.
According to Vu Thi Thu Thuy, Deputy Chairwoman of Quang Ninh People’s Committee, the province is ready for the National Tourism Year with the best preparations on infrastructure to organize programs and events.
Accordingly, under the Overall Plan for Tourism Development in Quang Ninh, Quang Ninh strives to become an international tourism center and a leading tourism destination in Vietnam with modern infrastructure and diverse, high quality and competitive tourism products.
By 2020, Quang Ninh aims to welcome 15-16 million tourists, including seven million foreigners, and rake in 30-40 trillion VND (1.3-1.7 billion USD) in revenue. The tourism sector is expected to contribute 14-15 percent to the gross regional domestic product (GRDP).
In addition, according to Deputy Head of the management board of Quang Ninh economic zone Hoang Trung Kien, a series of projects worth a total 61 trillion VND (2.7 billion USD) will be built in the Van Don Special Administrative – Economic Unit, the northern province of Quang Ninh in 2018.
The large-scale tourism projects include the Sonasea Dragon Bay tourism complex in Ha Long commune worth five trillion VND (219.2 million USD) of the CEO Group, the Furama Ha Long Vietnam Resort & Villas worth 1.12 trillion VND (49.11 million USD) invested by Viglacera corporation and a tourism complex and heritage road in Van Don, which will be built at an estimated investment of five trillion VND (219.2 million USD).
A luxury resort and entertainment complex on Ngoc Vung island of FLC Group will also be launched, with investment of 46 trillion VND (2.02 billion USD), as well as a project on urban and port areas in northern Cai Bau island costing about 3.5 trillion VND (153.55 million USD).
In 2016, Quang Ninh welcomed 8.3 million tourist arrivals, a year-on-year increase of seven percent, and earned more than 13 trillion VND (571 million USD) in revenue, up 23 percent, according to the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism.
