The highlight of the 2016 Ao dai Festival will be the ramp walk of famous artists such as Tra Giang, Thanh Tu and Nhu Quynh.
The artists, who are 70 to 80 years old, still represent the beauty of Vietnamese women. They have worn ao dai (traditional long dress) in daily life and on screen many times, but this is the first time the well-known artists will wear ao dai as models.
Designer Minh Hanh said: "At this festival, people will see the collections designed for all people, including old women and men, children and the disabled."
"We wish to honour ao dai and affirm it is designed for everyone in daily life, not just for models at the festive occasion or on the catwalk," Hanh added.
As shared by spouse of Haitian Ambassador Jovana Benoit: "I am a designer working in Paris. I have a collection of Vietnam's ao dai and wear them regularly. I love ao dai and feel proud of wearing it, so why do not you use it more regularly?".
At this festival, nineteen designers from nationwide will present their latest collections of "Ao dai’ inspired by various flowers.
"Each flower has its own meaning. Designers chose a flower for their "ao dai’ collection themselves to express their respect for women," designer Minh Hanh said.
Specifically, designer Cao Tien Minh has chosen the peach flower for his collection to express a gentle beauty. Designer Duc Hai will introduce a collection of ao dai with porcelain flower to represent the purity.
The ao dai festival at Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam from March 1 to 3 is open to all people.
The ao dai performance attached with meaning of flowers to honour beauty of Vietnamese women will be broadcast live on Hanoi Television on the night of March 4.
