1,500 int'l delegates to attend Vesak Celebrations in Vietnam

This will be the third time the UN’s commemoration of Vesak is held in Vietnam. The previous events took place in Hanoi in 2008 and the northern province of Ninh Binh in 2014.
1,500 international delegates from 105 countries and territories will join the 2019 UN Day of Vesak Celebrations, which is scheduled to take place from May 12 to 14 at Tam Chuc Buddhist Culture Center in the northern province of Ha Nam, said the organizing board at a press conference on April 18, Zing reported.

The celebrations will also see the attendance of high-profile figures like the President of Myanmar, Prime Minister of Nepal, Vice President of India, and 60 ambassadors and representatives from international organizations in Vietnam. Leaders of Vietnam’s Party, state and Vietnam Buddhist Sangha together with around 15,000 - 20,000 local and overseas Buddhist followers are expected to be present at the event.
Under  the theme “Buddhism’s Approach to Global Leadership and Shared Responsibilities for Sustainable Societies” Vesak 2019 celebrarations  is chaired by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in coordination with the International Council for the Day of Vesak (ICDV).
The Vesak 2019 program will include five international workshops and a seminar on Vietnamese Buddhism.  In the framework of the event,  five forums discussing the responsible leadership for sustainable societies, Buddhism’s approach to harmonious family, education, and responsible consumption, and Buddhism and the Fourth Industrial Revolution will be held. Some 398 presentations in English from foreign scholars and 110 others by Vietnamese researchers have been sent to the event.
Spiritual and cultural events will be held on the sidelines of the celebrations, like the Bathing of the Buddha ritual, requiems, a lantern night, photo exhibitions on world heritage pagodas, an exhibition on Buddhist antiques, and an art exchange.
