They will cook many delicious dishes from the available local ingredients found in Hoi An and every night one of the chefs will introduce a typical dish at the "Big Dish" area. Foreign music bands will provide a wide variety of street programmes and there will be a culinary carnival, which is expected to attract a large amount of visitors.
The festival, which comes on the heels of its successful debut in 2016, is organized by the Hoi An Culinary Events with the support of the Hoi An City People’s Committee. The annual event aims to promote the culture and tourism of the ancient city to both domestic and foreign visitors. The festival will offer an opportunity for local chefs to gain experience from leading global culinary experts.
In 2016, the first HAIFF with the theme “Taste the World” opened at An Hoi sculpture garden on March 14 and attracted 12 chefs from 12 countries worldwide.
Meanwhile, at the opening ceremony of HAIFF on 14th March 2017, Thomas Gugler, president of the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS), officially awarded a certificate of honour to recognize Hoi An as the Food Capital of Vietnam.
Hoi An city welcomed more than 3.2 million tourists in 2017, up 21% over the same period last year, according to a Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism report.
Culture Trip, a London-based travel site, has recommended that tourists visit Hoi An in central Vietnam at least once in their life. Hoi An is regarded as Vietnam’s most charming destination, Culture Trip wrote.
The ancient town is incredibly beautiful to walk around, with its narrow and winding lanes and old Chinese and Japanese-style houses. Tailors are virtually everywhere, making clothes of good quality at reasonable prices.
Located in the central province of Quang Nam, Hoi An was a leading trading port in Southeast Asia in the 17th and 18th centuries. Its architecture is a combination of Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese, with a little Western as well. It became a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999. The city’s Hoai River and its channels made the list of the ten most famous canals in the world on the US-based travel website touropia.com in 2014.
The old town is a culinary hot spot with many local specialties like “Banh mi Hoi An (Vietnamese baguette), “Mi Quang” (Quang-style noodles) and “Banh Dap” (smashed rice pancakes).
