The tunnel at the junction of Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Da Nang city will open for traffic in Nov 1.
Director of Da Nang Transport Department Le Van Trung said, the tunnel at the junction of Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong will open for traffic in Nov 1 to serve the large amount of vehicles during APEC Economic Leaders’ Week. The municipal authority rushed to complete the traffic-easing tunnel project at one of the city’s busiest roundabouts before the APEC Summit begins on November 5.
As expected, the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week will take place at Dang Nang city in less than a week. The city of Da Nang has basically finalized all necessary facilities serving the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Week and related meetings to be held in the city from November 6-11.
Work on the tunnel started 11 months ago, according to the city’s managing board of Priority Infrastructure Projects. The US$9.77 million road tunnel project, part of the city’s World Bank-funded sustainable development project, will replace the current ground-level intersection with a system of 160m-long open air tunnels and 80m underground tunnels. It is now technically complete, though not yet open to traffic. There will be two lanes for Bus Rapid Transit along with another two lanes for other vehicles.
Since Vietnam joined the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 1998, the forum has become an important force supporting the country’s economic reform and restructuring, growth model shift and global economic integration, including the entry to the World Trade Organisation. The year 2017 sees the second time Vietnam has played host to the forum after 19 years of being its member.
