Weaving trade of La Khe Village on show
Ngo Minh 17:02, 2024/10/10
The La - Thousand Years of Weaving exhibition takes visitors back to the tradition of weaving silk, satin and gauze in La Khe Village, a famous artisanal village in Hanoi.

Visitors get a glimpse of weaving in La Khe village, Ha Dong District, through an exhibition The La - Thousand Years of Weaving, which opened at the Temple of Literature on October 9.

The exhibition presents satin and silk fabrics, along with traditional costumes such as ao dai (long dress), ao ngu than (five petal dress), and others. Each artifact is closely related to the historical and cultural flow of La Khe Village (now La Khe Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi).

The highlight of the exhibition is the ancient fabric loom, which allows visitors to experience weaving and feel the sophistication and skill of the ancient craftsmen. From the 15th century until today, La Khe has maintained its traditional value in every thread of fabric, preserving the quintessence of the weaving craft through many generations.

La Khe silk is exquisite and light, with exceptional durability. The elaborate, intricate designs and beautiful motifs of traditional art, combined with the inventive and skilled hands of the artisans in the village of La Khe, give the products a graceful and dynamic feel.

The exhibition is a unique collection of La Khe materials through historical periods, made by artisan Le Dang Toan, who continues and preserves the quintessence of silk weaving trade of La Khe Village.

In particular, five ao dai designs depicting five typical symbols of Hanoi's history and culture are also on display, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.

"The Temple of Literature is hosting an exhibition on Hanoi's silk weaving village for the first time. After a series of ups and downs, the weaving industry of La Khe Village has been revived and is still growing thanks to the efforts of artisans," said Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Center for Scientific and Cultural Activities of Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam

The exhibition is not only a link to the past, but also a tribute to the traditional culture and spirit of Hanoi with a thousand years of civilization. At the same time, it will spread the knowledge of this traditional artisanal village to domestic and foreign visitors.

It will run until October 20 at the Temple of Literature.
