The World Bank has approved an additional aid of US$45 million for Livestock Competitiveness and Food Safety Project for Viet Nam.

The objectives of the Livestock Competitiveness and Food Safety Project for Viet Nam are to increase the production efficiency of household-based livestock producers, to reduce the environmental impact of livestock production, processing and marketing, and to improve food safety in livestock product supply chains (mainly meat) in selected provinces.
The project is aimed at supporting the improvement of the competitiveness of household-based livestock production, food safety and hygiene along the meat supply chain and the environmental management of livestock waste.
It will support the revamp of 124 small-scale slaughterhouses and reinforced tests of bacteria on meat coming from these facilities along with aiding 23 medium and large-scale slaughterhouses in improving their processing process.
It will also support the upgrade of 300 markets selling fresh meat to national food safety standards.
