Vogue names Sapa among best places everyone should visit in their lifetime
Whether it’s food, history or natural wonders that catch your eye when deciding on where to go next, wanderlust is most definitely real for all us—no matter our preferences for the particulars of a place.
Sapa in Lao Cai province in Vietnam has been listed among the 50 places that you need to visit at least once in your lifetime, according to a list released by Vogue, a Australia magazine.
“Hidden in the mountains of Vietnam, a trip to Sapa is like entering a far, far away land from the bustling streets of Hanoi,” Vogue wrote.
Francesca Wallace, assistant digital editor of Vogue, advises travelers that the natural beauty of Sapa will take away the breath of even the most seasoned of travelers. Book a multi-day guided tour with a homestay along the way and you won’t regret it. Plus, be sure to pick up a souvenir in the form of handmade blanket from one of the local Hmong women.
Oia (Kikladhes, Greece) tops the list, followed by Rome (Italy), Budapest (Hungary), Sydney (Australia), Havana (Cuba), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Paris (France), Zanzibar (Tanzania), Venice (Italy), etc.
Earlier, Skyscanner, a global metasearch engine, has just named Sapa in Vietnam the number one place among six “New Year, New You” end-of-year winter destinations for a fabulous escape that won’t burn your pocket.
The travel search engine suggested that you can trek around Sapa village, soaking in the culture, lifestyle and natural beauty of this town in winter to feel fresh like new, like having recharged the battery of your life. There’s cable car you can ride to the summit of Fansipan Mountain. To top it all off, take pretty photos of the spectacular European style architecture on the lake in the center of the town.
“The coldest period is from December to January. You can use the “Find flights for the whole months” in order to find more affordable round trip tickets. You’ll arrive in Hanoi and take the bus or an overnight train to Lao Cai before continuing on to Sapa on the bus with spectacular views on both sides of the road to keep you entertained,” Skyscanner wrote.
Sapa welcomed nearly 1.5 million visitors in the first eleven months of 2017, of which more than 30% were international tourists. In 2016, there were 1.2 million visitors to the hill town, according to the Lao Cai Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
