VN strives for adequate power supply from 2014

Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai has asked the Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) to ensure adequate power supply for the country from 2014.

The Deputy PM made the request on January 4 in Ha Noi at a conference to review the EVN’s 2013 operation and define new tasks for 2014.

The leader ordered the EVN to craft fresh investment attraction mechanisms as it is under financial pressure to build two nuclear power plants worth around US$ 20 billion.

Viet Nam now ranks the 31st place in the world and the fourth in the Southeast Asia in power consumption. However, the supply has yet to meet demand.

“The EVN must continue to adjusting electricity prices under a market mechanism,” said Mr. Hai.

EVN Deputy Director General Dang Hoang reported that the group generated and purchased over 127.8 billion kWh of electricity in 2013, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.47%.
