Vietnam’s rank of Getting Electricity up 32 places
According to the Doing Business Report 2018 of the World Bank, the indicator of getting electricity of Vietnam in 2017 is 78.69 scores out of 100, up 32 places compared to the last year’s rank at 64th. This is the highest improvement of Vietnam since 2013 to present.
Doing Business 2018 is the 15th in a series of annual reports investigating the regulations that enhance business activity and those that constrain it. Doing Business presents quantitative indicators on business regulation and the protection of property rights that can be compared across 190 economies, in which includes the indicator of Getting Electricity. As such, the indicator of Getting Electricity of Vietnam in 2017 is 78.69 scores out of 100, up 32 places compared to the last year’s rank at 64th. This is the highest improvement of Vietnam since 2013 to present and the highest growth rate in this indicator among ASEAN countries.

Getting Electricity is one of 5 indicators evaluated by Doing Business, which are considered to have significantly contributed to the positive review of Vietnam’s economy, which up 14 places in business environment compared to in 2016. With the increase of 6.46 points compared to 2016, Getting electricity is the second best indicator among the most improved indicators (after Paying Taxes) in compared with other indicators in the report.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the indicator of Getting Electricity of Vietnam being improved, and the second year Doing Business gave positive review for the Vietnam’s government effort in reform. After 4 years of implementing reforms in combining with consistent measures in Getting Electricity, Vietnam has gradually improved its ranking, from 156th in 2013 to 64 in 2017 (up 92 places).
According to Doing Business Report, the indicator of Getting Electricity of Vietnam is even higher than some countries with higher economic development such as China (98th), Canada (105th), Mexico (92nd), Israel (77th), Hungary (110th), Rumania (147th), Ukraina (128th). With this being said, sub-indicators in Getting Electricity of Vietnam compared to members of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is equivalent, while the processing time is significant lower (Vietnam: 46 days, Asia – Pacific: 71.6 days, OECD: 79.1 days).
With regard to the reliability of supply and transparency of tariffs index, Vietnam is evaluated at 6 points out of 8, up 3 points compared to 2016. This index has been improved significantly in recent years, showing the acknowledgement of Doing Business for the effort of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) in improving quality services to customers. Evidently, EVN has put up effort in reforming the electricity field, from enhancing efficiency in operation management, applying technologies to provide better services in the direction of simplification and more convenience for customers.
At the end of 2017, 100% services provided by EVN can be registered online, which is one of the EVN’s effort in improving service quality, building trust among customers and improving the economy’s competitiveness, with the ultimate goal of better serving customers’ demands.
