Vietnam needs more hospitals to provide local citizens with health check-ups and treatment.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly valued Japan’s ongoing hospital project in Vietnam during a reception on January 27 in Hanoi for Dr. Kusumi Mari, chairwoman of Japan’s Health Sciences Education Co. Ltd.

At the reception, Dr. Kusumi Mari briefed her host on her company’s underway project in Vietnam and expressed determination to soon build a hospital equipped with the latest medical technologies as well as advanced treatment techniques from Japan.

Phuc, for his part, said with a population of nearly 100 million people, Vietnam needs more hospitals to provide local citizens with health check-ups and treatment.

“I am looking forwards to the fact that the hospital will be put into operation as soon as possible with the transfer of technology from Japan,” the president said.

He added that Vietnam has been sending many medical trainees and caregivers to Japan for work. In terms of bilateral extensive strategic partnership, Japan is now the second biggest foreign investor in Vietnam with a total investment capital of US$65 billion.

“Vietnam always welcomes Japanese small- and medium-sized enterprises to the country for start-ups and technological transfer,” Phuc stressed.

The two countries are also members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which offer high trade and investment incentives and standards for intellectual property protection, thus making it easier for the company to do business in Vietnam, he said.

Affirming that education and technology transfer cooperation are now top concerns in Vietnam, President Phuc expressed his hope that Dr. Kusumi Mari will make her further effort to speed up the project.
