Vietnamese laborers to enjoy seven days for national holidays in April

The upcoming holidays are expected to be the peak period of domestic tourism and will also kick-start the summer tourist season in Vietnam.

Workers in Vietnam will be given a total of seven days off for the upcoming national holidays, including Hung Kings Commemoration Day, Reunification Day, and International Labor Day, according to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

Specifically, laborers will have one day off for the commemoration of the Hung Kings, the legendary founder of Vietnam, on the 10th of the third lunar month, which falls on April 10. However, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day this year falls on Sunday, thus, people will be entitled to a substitute day. That means the holiday will last from April 9 through April 11.

The other days off will be for Reunification Day [April 30] and International Labor Day [May 1], according to the 2019 Labor Code. As these two days fall on Saturday and Sunday, so workers will have two substitute days on the next Monday [May 2] and Tuesday [May 3]. Thus, laborers will thus have a four-day break from April 30 to May 3 to mark these two public holidays.

This holiday calendar applies to officials, civil servants, and employees of administrative agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations, the MoLISA said, adding that other agencies and organizations can base on their own work plans to arrange appropriate calendar.

The upcoming holidays are expected to be the peak period of domestic tourism and will also kick-start the summer tourist season in Vietnam.

Since March 15, Vietnam has officially resumed full tourism activities following nearly two years of paralysis due to the heavy impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, bringing about great expectations for the recovery and strong development of the country’s tourism sector.

However, many localities in Vietnam are still recording a large number of Covid-19 cases, especially in localities with high population density, busy trade and travel activities.

Therefore, travel and trade activities during the holiday must absolutely comply with the 5K messages (masks, disinfection, no gatherings, medical declaration and distance) of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 prevention and control, the MoLISA noted.
