Vietnam wins two golds at IJSO

The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) is held annually for students under the age of 15 who compete in physics, chemistry and biology.
Vietnamese students competing at the 11th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) held in Mendoza city, Argentina,won two gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal, from December 3.
 
 
This is the highest achievement of Vietnamese students when participating in the important contest.
Mai Dang Quan Anh and Dinh Anh Dung won the two gold medals for Vietnam while Nguyen Bang Thanh Lam and Nguyen Duc Quang secured two silver medals and Nguyen Minh Chinh took the bronze.
All of five students are 10th graders from the Hanoi – Amsterdam high school.
The competition, which took place from December 3 to 10, draw the participation of 234 students from 41 countries and territories worldwide.
Vice Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Le Ngoc Quang said that in this year’s competition, only about 10 countries won five gold medals and 5 countries won two or more gold medals.
This is the 7th time Vietnam has sent students to the event, which was held for the first time in 2004, he said.
In the competition held in India last year, Vietnam won one gold medal and 5 silver medals. 
It was the first time Vietnam won the gold medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad.
IJSO is an annual competition for 15-year-old students to compete in physics, chemistry and biology. 
The students took the exam must undergo three papers including multiple choice examination, theoretical test, experimental examination.

Each test is a practical problem which requires students to  flexibly apply basic knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics to answer the questions.
Le Ngoc Quang said that this contest was still a new contest for students in our country because a comprehensive and extensive coverage of its knowledge. 
Those achievements of Vietnam’s delegation at this year's competition will be the first step of the way towards the higher performance in the mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology international competitions.
IJSO was first held in 2004 in Indonesia.
This is the 7th Vietnam’s students participating the competition election.
This is the 5th in row the Department of Education and Training in Hanoi was assigned and authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training to select and establish the team which represents Vietnam to compete in the international competition.
