Vietnam welcomes 10.4 million foreign visitors in Jan-Aug
The number of foreign visitors to Vietnam surged by 22.8% in the first eight months of 2018.
Vietnam welcomed some 10.4 million foreign visitors in the first eight months of 2018, a 22.8% increase from the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has announced.
Arrivals by air, road, and sea in the reviewed period recorded annual increases of 17.3%, 62.1% and 1.6%, respectively while growth was also seen in the numbers of visitors from all five continents.
In August alone, over 1.3 million foreign visitors arrived in Vietnam, representing an on-year jump of 11.3%. Of the total visitors in August, 8 million came from Asia, with Chinese tourists topping the list at 3.4 million, followed by 2.2 million from South Korea, 545,000 from Japan, and 212,600 from Thailand.
Visitors from Europe were estimated at more than 1.4 million, of which Russian tourists accounted for the largest share with 413,400.
Vietnam’s revenue from travel services in the first eight months of 2018 is estimated at VND26.8 trillion (US$1.15 billion), up 17.6% from the same period last year, according to the office.
In 2018, Vietnam aims to serve 16 million foreign tourists and 80 million domestic tourists, according to General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Van Tuan.
Earlier, Vietnam has been ranked third among the top 10 destinations for Bucket List holidays, according to a list released by TripAdvisor, a US travel and restaurant website company.
According to TripAdvisor, Vietnam deserves to be ranked third among the 10 best destinations for Bucket List holidays as the Southeast Asian country is known for its bustling cities, delicious food and beautiful coastline.
